Yoohoo~ So I got my PTPTN loan converted to scholarship, yes. I just want to jot down things to take note, the steps etc, so anyone who needs them in the future well then I could just refer to this.

I graduated! - source: Graduation Cake by Israa on Flickr |
Anyway, if you did look for sources on internet about it you might encounter this blog: Xaivier Blog which really helped. So thanks! It's good that people shared their experiences on internet so we can just learn from one another. Ok straight to the points.
First of all check out the PTPTN site regarding the converting part. In case that the link there doesn't work, try to Google "Pengecualian pembayaran PTPTN" stuff like that. Check if you fulfill the requirements. Now the most important part:
You should have a first class status or something equivalent. (...which depends on your university/college. Mine is 3.7, UTAR is 3.5 etc... according to the letter PTPTN people sent to me last time.)You must be doing a full time study, you must complete the course within the years stated by PTPTN, you can't have other scholarhsips, your application must be within 12 months since your graduation ceremony (I'll call it convocation from here), and SOMETHING IMPORTANT FOR IPTS STUDENTS, (IPTS meaning private college/uni), make sure your course has this Sijil Perakuan Akreditasi from MQA. (I was in a public university so I'm not sure about this part. I think you can call PTPTN to find out.)
Now, the documents you need: (taken from PTPTN site) -- TAKE NOTE that for 2, 3 and 5 you can only get those done after your convocation (unless your college/uni let you get the cert before convocation). Also look at this PTPTN SITE question number 2.
- Akuan Penerima biaya yang telah lengkap diisi. (This is a form they upload on the website. You just download it and fill in. Sometimes they change and update the form. In my case I sent the old copy and they posted me the new version and asked me to post back. So you can always call and check if the form is updated or just ask them to email/post you a copy.)
- Salinan Ijazah Sarjana Muda Kepujian Kelas Pertama atau setaraf dengannya yang disahkan oleh Bahagian Akademik IPT berkaitan. (A photocopy of your cert of your degree etc and SIGNED BY BAHAGIAN AKADEMIK)
- Salinan transkrip keputusan peperiksaan yang disahkan oleh Bahagian Akademik IPT berkaitan. (A photocopy of your transcript and SIGNED BY BAHAGIAN AKADEMIK)
- Bagi penerima biaya IPTS, salinan Sijil Perakuan Akreditasi daripada MQA. (The MQA cert for your course -- this is only for
IPTAIPTS students.) (Made a typo and corrected it.) - Surat pengesahan Kelas Pertama (jika tidak dicatatkan perkataan "Kelas Pertama" pada Ijazah). (A letter by your university/college to prove that you have the first class status if not stated in your certificate -- I didn't have that so I asked for this cert.)
Some mistakes to be avoided / things to take note of:
- My document was signed by the wrong authorized personnel (lol?), as in he was not authorized (Because he was not from Bahagian Akademik. I was like WHY THE HECK did you sign my document then?!!!!). So I had to go back to my university for the whole thing so make sure you don't make mistakes like that while doing it. Anyway you can always check with the PTPTN people the list of pegawai in your place who are assigned to do this.
- This is unnecessary but "just in case". I have a friend who got a phone call which said her document was missing. That's really bad. So have extra photocopies of your document and signed the extras. If you stay in Johor and your university is in Penang... trust me you would regret you didn't do that.
- Use some postal services which can be tracked or something more reliable. I used poslaju.
Hopefully this helps. :)
P/s: In Xaivier Blog it mentions about the reference number. Well I lost it so I didn't state that in my letter. I just stated my IC number, university, course etc. Also everytime I called PTPTN what they asked for is my IC number.
