Brisbane Adventure Part 1

/ /
I remembered that I used to post once a week... well I tried to make myself do that. Something called blogging discipline I initiated. Way long ago before my Brisbane trip.

Okay Brisbane trip was from mid February to the end of the month and I'm only gonna talk about it now?!

Oh yes. Since I'm sorta like a procrastinator queen.

So it was a really cool experience! The flying alone and everything. I kinda booked the ticket in November. Then getting travel insurance, accommodation, and planning the itinerary... Everyone was shocked when they asked whom I was gonna travel with and I was like "Just me". My family was like WHAT but they didn't stop me or whatever. So yeah I have the most awesome family. After I was back a friend told me "You better not do it again next time". Sorry, I think I would!!!

So on 18 February night I kinda rushed to the airport. I didn't feel a thing not until I was on the plane. I went like "I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M DOING THIS!" and it was happening!

So yea, I took this photo on the next morning when I was reaching Gold Coast. I took a flight there because the tickets were cheaper. I didn't get any sleep, or maybe around one or two hours. Guess I was just TOO EXCITED!

I looked through my photos and found out that I didn't take a lot of those. Which is bad. I regretted that because photos are like the best memories keepers. I wish we can have the moving photos like those in Harry Potter. Like a real life .gif file.

Okay so the weather in Queensland is just hot in February. Gets kind of chilly at night though so it was not all bad. Before I went my colleagues who had been there already told me to not use an umbrella because the locals just put on shades. I tried. But until one point it was really very hot and I couldn't take it anymore so I was like "Screw it I'm gonna use my umbrella". It was near the GOMA -- Gallery of Modern Art.

The best experience in Brisbane... I would say it's the Story Bridge Climb (and one more place I'll talk about it in next post). I didn't go to any of the theme park. Serious. Because I'm not really into rides and all. I think there are animals in Sea World. Anyway I was focusing on experiencing cultures and lifestyles more than tourism stuff. I did go to some tourism areas anyway. Okay back to STORY BRIDGE.

So it was really fun. It is not considered as something extreme, really. The most challenging thing about the climb is the height and that's all. It is not that scary actually unless you have very very serious acrophobia. It's just stairs and to be honest I am not a very sporty person but I managed to do it. So if you feel like viewing the Brisbane city from a different pov then try this out.

Anyway I picked an evening climb. So I got to see sunset and it was all dark when we were done. There were around 12 or 14 of us I couldn't remember. Our very friendly guide (I think his name is Aden and if I am wrong I'm sorry!) gave us a short briefing and then used a breathalyzer on us. I think it's dangerous if you're even slightly drunk doing this. We only had a string/rope around our waist and with an end attached to a bar by the stairs (sorry for the failed description). So wherever we move the thing moves along the bar too. It's really nothing too dangerous. But if you purposely jump down it'd be bad. Like a Jackie-Chan-action-movie bad.

Our guide! He's totally cool. We all wore the suit... it looked hilarious on me because of my height. The color is to fit in and not distract the drivers on the bridge during our climb.

By the way I sort of had a gastric problem on the day. It started because I had late lunch on Wednesday (day 1 in Brisbane). But I had to bear with it :/ BECAUSE IF NOT I'D WASTE THE MONEY! Okay overall it's an awesome experience. I just walked up and down the stairs and it felt amazing when I was at the top and the guide told us about the history and stories of the city. Also, there are not a lot of climbable bridges in the world, and I've been to one!

I love the place! The city, the structure, and passionate people (not sure if I like that since I am not very into a lot of talking)... I love their public transports too. Even though it's expensive. Also distance from each stop is faaaaaar.

I went to Coles a few times to get some food and snacks. Dining out is expensive. I remembered one day I had some chicken noodle soup and it was like 10 AUD. The portion was like my lunch + dinner. So I guess dining out is not for me. Even in Singapore sometimes I can barely finish my food. I'm not talking about hawker center food though. Usually those are in adequate portions. My friends and I always share food if we go to some restaurant or just anywhere in a mall.

Oh back to Coles. So I saw it and I was like RAM-BU-TAN! Feels like meeting a fellow Malaysian. Then I realized they planted it in Australia too. Also it was freaking expensive?! 1kg for RM10 is expensive already!

Anyway, look at my cooking. That top right frame of the right pic is the chicken I cooked. I just used any spices I found in the kitchen and marinated the chicken. TASTED SO GOOD. I am a genius chef. I also boiled some potatoes and carrots for the porridge because of my gastric problems.

Oh and I found out they call a pharmacy "chemist". And a lot more vocabularies.

Not much for the first few days. More coming up next!
