TGIF! Just a very quick one. Few days ago I went for HPV vaccination. Ladies, girls, or guys do inform your friends, families, wives, girlfriends, daughters. For female below the age of 25 (or if you're still 25) you might want to consider to get vaccinated if you haven't yet. The secondary school students in Malaysia are given the shots for free. Some of my friends got the shots with discount in universities too.
I am turning 25 soon-ish so I think I better take it fast! There are two kind of vaccines available: Gardasil and Cervarix. Gardasil is the one which covers four types of HPV whereas Cervarix only covers two. I considered and decided to take Gardasil and after that I read articles about people who took Gardasil shots and died... So encouraging. Okay I am not sure whether that website has any scientific proof for what it says. But this one has some basic information about the vaccines.
Anyway, the doctor told me that some suggest that Cervarix is a more effective vaccine? But as long as you take either one vaccine it greatly lowers your risk of getting cervical cancer. Also this is NOT only for ladies who are sexually active. Or you might think "I don't plan to get a lot of partners I will get only have one man and that'd be my only sex partner so I don't need the vaccine" BUT you don't know how you'd get a virus. Prevention is better than cure.
There's no DO's and DON'Ts just that my arm was sore for these few days. Side effects occurrence is RARE. So far I'm fine.
The price for the shots are quite standard. It is around 1k in Malaysia and 370+- in Singapore (for Gardasil shots). Also 370+- is the package price. Cervarix might be cheaper. I took mine in Healthway. Just go google some clinics around your area and ask about it.
Get vaccinated today! :)
Update (14 May 2014): Well I already had my third shot in April and all three shots have been fine. So if you haven't took one, maybe you want to consult a doctor and get vaccinated? Cheers.
