Haters gonna hate

/ /
Potatoes gonna potate.

Because every time when people want to do good, well, there will always some other people who are against it. For example, Ice Bucket Challenge haters.

Okay I'm saying that they made their points that it's a waste of water and so on. Wait, watch this first and see what Ryan (a YouTube celebrity -- check out nigahiga) wants to say on this matter.

I mean, it's true that somehow you waste some water in a day. When you shower, clean your teeth, and wash your hands and let the water flow... I believe MOST people do. I'm NOT saying it's okay to waste water. C'mon people.

Anthony Carbajal has ALS. He did the ice bucket challenge too. See what he wants to say.

Real men/women accept ALS Ice Bucket Challenge!

/ /
On 16 August ALS announced it has surpassed $10 million in “Ice Bucket” donations.

Hooray!

If you don't know what is ALS (I didn't know either), you can read this on ALS website. The disease "...often referred to as 'Lou Gehrig's Disease,' is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord."

If you know Stephen Hawking, he was diagnosed with ALS when he was 21. And he is 72 years old this year. I want to say he is really awesome. He never let what his body cannot do to confine and restrict him. His contribution in science is so great. He's a very inspiring person to all of us.

(In case you didn't know a movie bout Stephen Hawking's early life is going to be on THE SCREEN.)

So if you don't know about ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, look it up on Youtube. You have to pour a bucket full of ice + water on yourself and donate $100, then name 3 person to pass the challenge on. I was amazed by the number of people taking part in it (and record!). Celebrities, athletes, entrepreneurs... I saw one 6 year old little boy, he did the challenge and donate $25 from his piggy bank.

Some really put the effort in for the video. Watch Bill Gates':

Faith in humanity restored. :)

Added on 20 Aug: So I read about people commenting like those celebs etc are only doing it for fame and what not and it's not really helping to solve the problem. I agree that pouring a bucket full of ice water (and ice cubes maybe) on (let say me) my head will not cure an ALS patient, or help one to feel a little better from the sickness. But I believe the movement helped people to notice this issue and it did collect quite an amount of donation. Of course there are many more things we need to do to help people with this disease (any many others), like raising public awareness and making people realizing their needs -- not just an one time thing.

Thank you from the Wikimedia Foundation

Let's be honest here -- I DID NOT donate a lot of money. Maybe you could get some change buying someone a cup of Starbucks. The intention was just to appreciate. I mean, Wikipedia did help me a lot when I was in university. Now I got my loan converted to scholarship. I didn't pay a cent for my degree (also my loan paid for my rental, meals and other spending too) and I think I should show some appreciation -- to everyone who helps me (coursemates play an important part, also Wikipedia and Stackoverflow and Google in general). Also, Wikipedia is non-profit. They don't have someone paying them for the ads or whatever. So, DONATE today! Buy them a cup of coffee/Starbucks! They deserve it. And I will donate again for sure!
