Real men/women accept ALS Ice Bucket Challenge!

/ /
On 16 August ALS announced it has surpassed $10 million in “Ice Bucket” donations.

Hooray!

If you don't know what is ALS (I didn't know either), you can read this on ALS website. The disease "...often referred to as 'Lou Gehrig's Disease,' is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord."

If you know Stephen Hawking, he was diagnosed with ALS when he was 21. And he is 72 years old this year. I want to say he is really awesome. He never let what his body cannot do to confine and restrict him. His contribution in science is so great. He's a very inspiring person to all of us.

(In case you didn't know a movie bout Stephen Hawking's early life is going to be on THE SCREEN.)

So if you don't know about ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, look it up on Youtube. You have to pour a bucket full of ice + water on yourself and donate $100, then name 3 person to pass the challenge on. I was amazed by the number of people taking part in it (and record!). Celebrities, athletes, entrepreneurs... I saw one 6 year old little boy, he did the challenge and donate $25 from his piggy bank.

Some really put the effort in for the video. Watch Bill Gates':

Faith in humanity restored. :)

Added on 20 Aug: So I read about people commenting like those celebs etc are only doing it for fame and what not and it's not really helping to solve the problem. I agree that pouring a bucket full of ice water (and ice cubes maybe) on (let say me) my head will not cure an ALS patient, or help one to feel a little better from the sickness. But I believe the movement helped people to notice this issue and it did collect quite an amount of donation. Of course there are many more things we need to do to help people with this disease (any many others), like raising public awareness and making people realizing their needs -- not just an one time thing.
