Hola! My Spanish class ended last week which means -- more free time from now on. Being able to reach home early during weekdays are sweet for me. I don't really like to go out a lot. I just like feeling cozy and comfy at home (actually in my room -- I rent a room in Singapore).
I read about perler and hama beads since quite some time ago but I have never tried to get the beads and all. So I saw a promotion on a website and I decided to try it out.
First of all the difference between perler and hama beads are the size. That's like the MAIN difference. so with hama beads I can do smaller and more precise pattern so I chose that instead of perler.
So the package got me the board, two pieces of iron papers as big as the board, and that box of beads: 10 x 350 pieces. So I just looked up some patterns on Pinterest and made a sample.
After ironing the beads would melt and merge together. The ironing part is the one which takes time. It takes SKILLS AND PATIENCE! Like you can't just flip up the ironing paper half way because some beads might be sticking to the paper and they're not merging yet. Then your beads would be like "Yo imma got separated and messed up". I did the rearranging thing over and over again. So just iron a few rounds before you flip over the paper. Like few minutes with midium/hot heat level. Also take note because you don't want to melt your board. Also iron the back too (use iron paper!).
Now after the first one I tried out other patterns. So pacman and domo!!! :D My sister thinks the blue pacman ghost(?) is in a nice color and cute.
Ironing a lot of patterns at the same time is quite tricky. Also for bigger pattern like domo, you have to iron it really carefully and thoroughly. Do make sure the small parts are firmly melted together because the arms part kind of fell off after a while. Or avoid having those thin and long detail (like tentacles or whatever). Or use a background.
It's pretty easy. Just be careful at the ironing part. Because you're melting plastic (not that I smelled burned plastic when ironing) so watch out for your kids (also yourself).
Anyway I did those over one weekend. It doesn't really consume time. I was thinking to sell the sprites I made (lol I know) but yea I got a little lazy... This is fun though. I might just do some geeky sprites or something nice for my friends as gifts (Christmas!!!).
Check out more hama beads patterns on Pinterest!
