I visited Underwater World few months ago and WHAT CAN I SAY?! I always love places like zoos, the Sea Aquarium and River Safari (I will write a post for River Safari too!). Oh by the way I did visit Australia Zoo too in my Brisbane trip this February. It's owned by the Irwin's if you know Steve Irwin, the crocodile hunter. Oh back to Underwater World. It's probably not as big or grand as Sea Aquarium but I like it anyway. There are quite a few places that you can go to touch the fishes. Also there's a dolphin and seal show available (I LOVE THAT).
Yep the picture above is the pink dolphin. It would swim around and lean the platform and it's like they're smiling at us! So cute!!! <3
The day before I spent a night at W Hotel. They gave us these macaroons but I don't really like sweet stuff. :S Then that night we watched the water/fire/light show Wings of Time at Sentosa. Well it was a treat from my company so thank you boss! :D I have a really nice president I am thankful.
Wings of Time |
So the next day I went to Underwater World. It was really convenient because there are booths around Sentosa which you can just go and buy it or any other attractions tickets. There are probably certain attractions which you need to buy the tickets at certain places though.
So Underwater World has the feature that you can touch fishes and so on. There's this pool with this kind of fishes which I don't know the name of:
Feels smooth and slippery |
Then this: I don't get how this works? Is it air pressure? How does the water not flow out I don't get the physics behind. Anyway you can put your hand in there to touch the fishes when they swim near the entrance.
The stingray pool where you can touch them:
They sprayed water because they swim and turn really fast |
There are a lot of aquariums too.
Do you know that male seahorses carry the eggs? They are great dads! :D
I think this photo is preeeeety |
This cute little thing is known as Harlequin Shrimp!
Harlequin Shrimp! |
I don't know what happened to it or is that normal? But it does swim like that. The bottom part doesn't swing left to right.
And more fishes |
And this crazy creature that looks like a facehugger:
It's like facehugger the sea version |
So I didn't remember what this turtle is called, so I Google "pig nose turtle". Guess what? They are known as pig-nosed turtles!
Sea angels! They are very tiny. It has feeding tentacles in its head! D: They extend to grab preys.
Lionfish! |
These giant poser crabs. I think they are Japanese spider crabs.
More crabs!
And this! We can actually see something moving in the shark embryo.
There's this tunnel with moving escalators thing. I think the fishes probably see us as food being transported on a conveying belt like some human-sushi...
This is like Jaws Remake 2014 LIVE:
You look funny from this angle, ray.
We can't miss the clownfish! They look cute and adorable because we all have watched Finding Nemo. BUT! There's this thing about them that I find creepy.
Clownfish are sequential hermaphrodites, meaning that they develop into males first, and when they mature, they become females. If the female clownfish is removed from the group, such as by death, one of the largest and most dominant males will become a female. The remaining males will move up a rank in the hierarchy. [Source: Wikipedia]
So, Marlin was never at the top of the group. His wife (Nemo's mom) was. And after she died, someone took over...

We have Nemo so who else do we need... DORY!!!
DORY!!! |
Okay don't look at them that way. It's a Disney movie. By the way we'll see Finding Dory in year 2016!
On the way to Dolphin Lagoon we saw the otters too. It was really hot so they weren't moving.
There are fur seals at the Dolphin Lagoon too! They are really cute!
They have GREAT balance. They are also good at fetching. There was a part which the trainer invited an audience to throw hoops and the seal would fetch with its head. It could fetch it from really far away. They move really smooth with no hind legs.
They wave with their tails too (is it called tail?).
And here are they THE PINK DOLPHINS!!!
I'll see you next time!
It was fun! I wish I can touch a dolphin someday. Not like capture one and keep it as a pet though. That's inhumane.
Anyway Underwater World was fun! I think it's very suitable for kids at learning age or just anyone who loves the nature!
Oh last but not least:
Under the sea~ |
